Five Ideas for Finding Topics

Hitting the Headlines

After you’ve been in business for a while it can often be hard to feel like you’ve got any originality left.  Finding new and interesting topics to cover in your blogs, emails and social media can be very daunting.  I like to start with a topic and generally that is what inspires my writing of a blog and finding places of inspiration has never been easier.

I like to gather a bunch of topics at one time into a list and then churn out a few posts at a time.  I’m almost at the end of my last list so here’s where I found some of my next batch of ideas.

1.  Pinterest.  I love Pinterest and it’s one of my most followed social media channels.  You can find me at www.pinterest.com/sarah1172. Come say hi and follow along.  It’s also a great resource for business information.  There’s lots of posts to give you help with titles for blog posts.

2.  I’m a huge lover of magazines and one of the things that makes me want to buy them is their enticing headlines.  You can learn a lot from the language they use on the front  covers.  “Five ways to know he’s into you,” could become “Five ways to boost your sales”, or “Five places to find topics!”

3.  Likewise newspaper headlines provide great, punchy one liners that you can adopt to your chosen subject

4.  I’ve just been looking around my living room for inspiration and there’s a couple of catalogues. One of them for Clark Rubber has a tag line “Everything pools, foam and rubber”. How about “Everything finance, banking and cashflow!”

5.  There’s also a recipe book on the coffee table with the subtitle “Quick and Easy Food”.  There’s so many ways to adapt that title.  “Quick and Easy Social Media”, “Quick fixes for easy time management”, “Easy, Peasy Recruitment”.  You get the idea.  If you can’t find inspiration around you, head online, or to your local newsagent or library.  By changing a few key words you can quickly find a topic for conversation.

Till next time,
